Since the invention of prêt-à-porter in the 1950s, fashion as an industry has become widespread all over the world. The cycle of "always moving forward, changing to new styles for the new age," which seems to be ever increasing in speed, and which includes within it a certain sense of intimidation, is being treated as though it is fashion.
In recent years, the systems that have worked until now, such as the select shops, department stores and distribution industry, as well as the production sites and all other industries that surround fashion have started to experience difficulties. With the illusion that fashion itself is no longer needed from time to time. It is as though fashion itself is becoming obsolete.
Fashion is a thing made up of a visual aspect and a material one, but the value of each has always changed according to the time and place. People, clothing, time. Fashion can be defined by what lies between those things, and by the relationship between them.
What will fashion become in the future? It may not only depend on the relationship between people and their clothes. For example, it may be influenced by the fusion of fashion with academic fields such as mathematics and science, a mix which has never happened before. One example is that there may be hints in reviewing the techniques, such as manual work and advanced technology, in order to expand and improve the production landscape as it exists today. I believe that a fashion industry that spreads in a variety of ways is the ideal towards which we should be aiming, and that forming connections with people from various fields is how we will create the fashion of the future.
